ABOUT

(May 2024)

I started this blog many years ago with a view to share my passion for travel and the idea that the more we learn about different places and peoples around the world, the more similar we appear to be versus different.

Many things have changed since that time. I’ve found what I consider to be my dream job, first with Twenty31 Consulting, ultimately acquired by Skift – leading a team of super smart people advising destinations and related travel organization leaders on how to achieve their objectives and improve the lives of communities that call those places home. And, heck, I get to travel the world while doing that! This is what I want to do for the rest of my life.

The COVID pandemic also happened. Because of it, I found it very difficult to continue writing about travel, when travel was perceived to be a cause of how the pandemic spread so widely and so quickly. It was hard to be inspired during that time.

And, finally, after many years of trying, a true miracle happened. I had my daughter, Florence River. I wished she would come out looking and acting like her mother, but with my blue eyes (though her mother’s eyes and smile are what tempted me that very first time we met), and somehow, that’s exactly what we received. She can only be described as magical.

These three things have shaped my new viewpoint of travel and tourism, and I suspect as I get back into the game of writing, will shape much of the thoughts I share here. I will not set this up as a weekly blog, rather, I will write when I am able to. While every word was previously written by me, AI now plays such a large part of our lives that I cannot promise I will be unable to use it. But I do promise that what you see written here are my original thoughts, perhaps put through an AI editor to ensure it all makes sense for you.

Keep exploring!

ABOUT

(September 2018, keeping for posterity)

Why not I say! Why not share the things you love most in life? The things that make you feel most alive? The things that make you feel most free?

I was blessed to have been born into a life of travel and adventure, developing a desire to experience everything and anything this world has to offer! Well, almost everything. Remind me to tell you about a few of those less desired experiences…

The ability to explore, experience, feel, smell, taste, love, laugh, cry, live – alone and together with family, friends, and strangers – has reinforced to me how much more similar we are than different. And, that very feeling is what makes me feel at home, everywhere. That was the mushy part.

That is the reason I keep exploring and the reason I invite you to explore our world, our home, with me through weekly travel, adventure, culture and other pursuits weekly newsletter completely curated by me. No algorithms, no AI. Just me and a lot of reading.

Keep exploring!
