KEEP STRAIGHT, THEN MAKE A RIGHT AT THE FRUIT VENDOR, AND WHEN YOU GET TO THE KIDS PLAYING IN THE STREET, YOU WENT TOO FAR

Note: Waywinds will be off next week due to, you guessed it, some upcoming travel……to Iceland. Will let you know how it goes!

Imagine a world where three words identified your exact location. You could use it to get cabs to exactly where you’d like to go, to mail a letter to a place where street addresses aren’t really a thing, or to find that invite-only rave (do they even still have these?) in the middle of some warehousing complex. From What3Words: “We have divided the world into a grid of 3mx3m squares and assigned each one a unique three word address. It means anyone can accurately find any location and share it more quickly, easily and with less ambiguity than any other system.” Check out one of my favorite places in the world: Sprang.Staffs.Admitted.

THE NO MEAT TREAT

Who would have thought? A foodie vacation minus meat? Impossible! But, not only is it very possible, it is a thing. I mean, it’s an actual trend that destinations are marketing to: Vegetarian/Vegan Travel. From Lonely Planet: “More and more people are developing a taste for vegan and vegetarian dining with benefits to their health, the planet and, of course, the animals,” and a list of vegetarian/vegan restaurants worth visiting.

And, well, for the rest of us, Travel + Leisure put out a list of the 35 Can’t Miss Culinary Journeys Every Foodie Should Add to their Bucket List.

HE DID WHAT?

Apparently, last Friday, Trump signed a law that almost nobody even noticed. Stunning for many reasons I don’t want to get into here, but most stunningly, and perhaps amazingly, it impacts us all as travelers in a positive way: “President Trump Just Signed a Law That Radically Changes Life for Airline Passengers, Flight Attendants, and Airlines.” Here’s a summary of my favorite changes:
– Requires airlines to refund passengers for “services they paid for but did not receive”
– Requires the FAA to set minimum standards for seat width and pitch
– Prohibits airlines from “bumping” passengers who’ve already boarded
– Makes it illegal to store a dog or other animal in an overhead bin
– Prohibits passengers from using mobile phones to make calls during flight
– Requires the FAA to set up an “Office of Spaceports”

YES! I HAVE A 43 HOUR LAYOVER!

If you’ve had the opportunity to travel to Asia, you’ve probably found yourself at some of these airports. They really are quite a destination in and of themselves, and CNN goes so far as to say they’re even changing the way we travel: “But the fun starts when you notice the fleet of robots on hand to help passengers navigate the airport. Forget finding an information desk or complicated terminal map. These friendly helpers will scan your boarding pass and escort you to your gate, conversing with you in any of four languages – Korean, English, Mandarin and Japanese.” Robots 1-Humans 0.
